HTML Guardian v.7 readme

Installation / uninstallation

Installing HTML Guardian v.7 requires Administrator privileges.

Unzip the downloaded file. Double-click HTMLGuardian.exe file to start the installation.

Microsoft's Windows Installer 2.0 or later is needed to install HTML Guardian.
For Windows 2000, XP and later, Windows Installer is a native part of the operating system.
Even if you use Windows 9.x / ME, Windows Installer is most likely present on your PC because many applications include it in their setup.

If you do not have any version of Windows Installer, or if you have an old version, you'll see a warning. In both cases, download a recent version of Windows Installer from www.microsoft.com, install it, then install HTML Guardian.
(to check which version of Windows Installer you have, click the Windows 'Start' button and then click 'Run'. In the box type 'msiexec' [without the quotes] and click OK.

In case you have a previous version of HTML Guardian installed:
In case you have a previous version 7 installation (or a v.7 beta release), the installer may prompt you to uninstall it before installing this one.
If so, you can uninstall the older version from Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs.
Uninstalling the older version will remove the program, but will not remove your settings (profiles, filters etc.) . To be able to use your previous settings, you should install the program in the same folder where the previous version 7 was installed.

In case you have version 6.x installed - installation (and un-installation) of version 7.x will not affect in any way existing installations of version 6.x.
Do not install version 7 in a folder where version 6.x is installed ( by default, version 7 will be installed in another folder - C:\Program Files\HTML Guardian 7\ for 32-bit operating systems, or C:\Program Files (x86)\HTML Guardian 7\ for 64-bit operating systems)

You can uninstall HTML Guardian 7 from the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel. Uninstalling HTML Guardian v.7 requires Administrator privileges.

System requirements:

- Windows 98/Me/2000 users - it is strongly recommended to have Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher installed. IE6 installation updates many important system files used by HTML Guardian's debugging and security auditor engines. It's recommended to install IE6 before HTML Guardian.
- Windows 2000 users - it is strongly recommended to have at least Service Pack 3 installed.
- Windows XP users - it is strongly recommended to have at least Service Pack 1 installed.

- Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows 11, Windows server versions - no special requirements.

- Windows 95/NT4 - the support for these operating systems is discontinued*.

* 'discontinued support' for some operating system means that HTML Guardian will most likely work if installed on this operating system, but will not be tested for compatibility anymore and no technical support will be provided. The files protected with HTML Guardian can be viewed on these operating systems without problems - 'discontinued support' affects only the program's installation & usage, not the compatibility of the encrypted files.

We will highly appreciate your feedback.
Please email our developers team [dev@protware.com] for any new features or improvements you would like to see in the next releases of the program.
